Palm Sunday is a special moment at First Church, when we begin the walking the journey with Jesus to the cross of Good Friday and the joy of Easter. Our worship begins with a parade of palms and closes with the empty cross.
The entire congregation and choir, from balcony to balcony, joins in the singing of "The Palms", an uplifting hymn by Jean-Baptiste Faure'. This has been a tradition at our church for many years.
Our youngest may be part of this special worship.
The emotional and meaningful highlight of this service is when we transition to Holy Week, with the entering of the cross, made from the trunk of our Christmas tree, accompanied by the haunting and powerful song "On the Via Delorosa". We leave contemplating Jesus's journey to Good Friday, and ultimately, the resurrection joy of Easter.
