Catch the Spirit 2019

September 8, 2019 was Catch the Spirit Sunday, our celebratory kick-off to another exciting program year.

Church School resumed following the parade of children and Church School teachers during morning worship.

As part of our celebration of the new program year, we had a Blessing of the Backpacks at the 10:00 a.m. service.  All children, students of all ages and educators were invited to bring their backpacks, bags and briefcases to worship. A special blessing was offered as the new school year began, and each student received a special gift.

We also blessed the 83 backpacks so generously donated by the congregation through the efforts of the Board of Community and World Service. Seventy-three full backpacks were given to our local DCF, ten were contributed for children in Hartford, and we were able to donate school supplies to Master's Manna. We are so grateful for all those who made these donations possible.

Children were dismissed to their classrooms following the Blessing of the Backpacks to begin their new program year.

Following the 10:00 a.m. worship service, we gathered on the Parade Ground for fellowship and for our traditional hot dogs, chips and ice cream.

There were displays by our Boards and Committees demonstrating the range of ways for anyone, of all ages, to get involved in our church life and community.

Join us for fellowship, the renewal of the Spirit in our lives and the joy of a new program year at First Church, where we believe that Faith Makes a Difference!  You are wecome no matter where you are on life's journey!
